In Search of the Purple Flash

In Search of the Purple Flash
We live in a world that rushes past the surface. We glance at things, categorise them and move on. But if you’ve ever held a piece of raw labradorite in your hand, you know that nature does not always reveal itself at first glance. What appears to be an ordinary, mysterious grey stone holds something more.
Then you shift your angle. The light catches it just right. And suddenly, a fire wakes up from within.
I took this photograph a long time ago. In the original image, the lavender looked like crystallised falling tears of an angel, or at least that was the message I received. The purple brought to mind a song, an image of purple light in a canyon, where our most private intentions can be dreamed into life. Looking at it again, those associations are still there, reminding me to keep going with my dreams and bringing then into reality.
The Magic Beneath the Surface
The purple flash asks us to stay a little longer. To turn the stone and follow the light. What first appeared quiet and grey reveals lavender, violet and unexpected glimpses of blue. It feels like looking into ancient cosmic glass, alive with a fire that can be witnessed but cannot be commanded.
The violet reveal calls to mind the Violet Flame and its associations with transformation and spiritual alchemy. One interpretation among many, rather than a fixed meaning.
Someone else might see something entirely different. That is part of what draws me to crystal macrophotography: the detail is there, but what we recognise in it can be deeply personal.
From Stone to Wearable Earth Art
Through the lens, a fleeting moment becomes an image that can be returned to. The lavender tears and purple light that caught my attention years ago find another life in the Purple Labradorite Cap.
The photographed layers of the crystal become wearable earth art, carrying that captured detail beyond the original image and into the everyday.
An Everyday Anchor
A photograph holds a fleeting reveal still, allowing it to be seen again, in another setting or from another perspective. Carried into wearable earth art, it becomes an everyday reminder to look beneath the surface and honour what resonates.
Stay present in your magic. Stand in your truth. Speak your truth.
A truth becomes more generous when we can express it without requiring someone else to surrender their own experience.
Not everything reveals itself at first glance.
Some things ask us to look again.
